Great opening night to 2020. 11 guys were onhand to test their luck and going by heat 1 I knew the racing was going to be a cracker. We did have 1 issue plague our night with what i thought the new PC was setup properly only to find an issue that ive never seen before with cars coming in pit to fuel up and even though RCD was saying they were in pits it wasnt allowing them to fill so instead of wasting most of the night trying to sort it we ran our Finals without Fuel Burn or Fuel Stops. But compared to some of our Enduro stints 60 laps isnt that hard to run without a fuel stop. Our first class of the night was Slotworx Porsches and the heats were pretty intense and the Finals were pretty decent quality for our first racemeet back and it seems alot more cars are "on the pace" so making the A-Final was a challenge in itself and the B-Final had the drivers and marshalls on the edge of their seats with the top 2 who transferred not decided until the final 2 laps. The A-Final was epic aswell with a 4 cars pack going with the other 2 cars not far behind. A motor change before the finals robbed Sandman of any car pace to leave him circulating to get the best result possible while Steve had car issues finishing his race early. Sean did the Alphabet soup coming from the C-Final with one of the NBS loan cars to finish off with a solid 4th in the A-Final and puts him 3rd overall in the series.
Allan was on a mission all night with a car that hasn't been touched since the end of last year and came out swinging early in the A-Final leading some laps with good car pace but was probably robbed of 2nd when John was trying to put him down a lap a bit of side by side racing resulted in some slight contact deslotting Al and allowing Ryan to slip by and nab 2nd with 5 laps to go. Was good to see Ryan's Porsche finally dialed with an offseason rebuild it seemed right on the money to compete for a possible win. Im sure this wont be the last time Allan or Ryan are on the podium this season. In the end though John got the win with a car that was on point the whole A-Final, i was pretty happy to finally break though for my first Slotworx Porsche win and glad i also have a car that able to compete for wins.
2nd up for the night was the debut for the Muscle cars. And as expected being this is a new class and a new chassis to us we will probably spend most of the first season developing them, a couple of cars had small issues plague them but being most cars were lucky to have seen more than 50 laps use and 2 only being completed 30min before racing started we would be kidding ourselves if we though they would run perfect but in saying that it will also help mix up the results a little and we may see a few new faces get on the podium. Due to the time lost earlier in the night with me trying to reslove the pit issue we only ran with 1 round of heats and followed that with the finals. The A-Final was a surprisingly good close race with Sharon being on the pace all night and the person to beat but got a tad unlucky in the final to end up 2nd but none the less look out for her in the coming rounds. Sandman got lucky that he was not to far behind Shaz when she got in trouble to take advantage and nail the first win for 1/32 Muscle cars. Mick rounded out the podium in 3rd with a solid drive too many crashes with under developed cars cost Al and John any chances but we can see the potential in those 2 cars and Ryan was also left with a car that was a handful through the middle but he battled on till the end and did well to only go down 4 laps with how difficult it looked to drive.
Next Fortnight the Porsches go on their off week with Slotworx V8's Rd 1 and 1/32 Plafit Muscle cars back on for Rd 2 of which im sure the cars that were a little off last night will surely be much more competitive so it will be an interesting Round 2 for them. Look forward to seeing all the guys back next fortnight where we will likely see the returns of Rocket and possibly Bruce to spice up the competition even more.
